The Kings play Nuts4Ribs!

They're back! After a six-month absence from the local music scene, The BBQ Kings are hitting the stage again on Saturday, August 22nd for the 3rd annual Nut4Ribs Ribfest (www.nuts4ribs.com).
This year, the venue is the Halifax waterfront, next to the Waterfront Warehouse. The Kings had a blast playing at last year's event and are honoured to be invited back. They'll kick off the day-long concert series at 12:15pm.
Following the departure of long-time member John M Gray to pursue a solo career, the band has been busily cooking up new material in their secret rehearsal space. The Nuts4Ribs event will mark the début of some rockin' originals by Deputy Doug Barron and the addition of several lesser-known gems from artists as diverse as Long John Baldry and Tom Petty. And as always with the Kings, you can count on inspired mash-ups (would you believe Stevie Wonder & ZZ Top ?) and a spicy dash of Cajun and Zydeco to accompany those delicious ribs you'll be chomping on.
For the Nuts4Ribs gig, the regular BBQ Kings lineup of Doug Barron, Mario Bradet, Jon Domagala, Costas Halavrezos and Rob Hutten will be supercharged by Len LeBlanc (Blou, Drum!) on drums & harmonica.
See you there!

If ever there was an argument for a mid-winter holiday to blow off steam, you gave it to us on Saturday, February 16th.
Our thanks to you and all your friends (more than 200 warm bodies in all!) who made your way to The Seahorse Tavern for our first gig of 2008. And thanks to all the pent-up energy you released with your dancin', we were able to use our patented Flyin' Feet Power Converter ™ to run our amps.
Apologies for the slow response to your call for encores at the end of the night. It must have taken us 10 seconds to kick back in. Easy? Yes. Cheap? Well...
And a tip of the BBQ Kings' crowns to Neon Mesa for opening the festivities with their great Latin groove & awe-inspiring musicianship.
If you can think of a venue or festival where you'd like to see the BBQ Kings play, get in touch via info@bbqkings.ca. We can try to make it happen!

BBQ Kings Rock The Seahorse Nov. 3rd

Al Gore, Bono and Leonardo DiCaprio Not Attending
BBQ Kings November 3rd Show at the Seahorse Tavern
For Immediate Release
October 24, 2007 -- Halifax roots-rock band the BBQ Kings have confirmed that climate change activists Al Gore, Bono and Leonardo DiCaprio will not be attending the group’s November 3rd show at the Seahorse Tavern in Halifax.
In their quest to reduce greenhouse emissions, the BBQ Kings actively discourage big-name celebrities from attending their gigs. It is also very likely Bob Geldof, Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne won’t be sitting in with the band when it plays its Halifax gig.
As part of their environmental credo, the BBQ Kings encourage their international fans to use personal carbon credits to barbecue, rather than fly in fossil-fuel-hungry planes to attend their performances. The band contends that one Louisiana-style barbecue creates 38,000 times less carbon dioxide than a commercial flight from Galway to Graceland.
Known for crossing international time zones and musical styles -- often in the same song -- the BBQ Kings will serve up a whole new mess of originals and a new suite of well-grilled covers when they play The Seahorse on November 3rd.
The fabulous World Beat band Neon Mesa will open the show at 8:30 p.m. Environmental crusaders in their own right, Neon Mesa promotes the use of compact fluorescent lights, rather than neon, in flashing motel and barroom signs across North America.

Last minute gig tonight!
Hi all,
Just a quick note to say that the BBQ Kings are playing a last-minute gig tonight at Ginger's Tavern with The Whiskey Kisses, a great new old-school country band. Things will get underway around 10pm, or even a little earlier if we're feelin' frisky.
Should be a fun show... hope you can make it.
Cheers,
The BBQ Kings - John, Costas, Jonny D, Mario, Doug & Rob

All-Ages Saturday Matinee, April 21st

Once upon a time, in the heat of a federal election campaign, a political insider suggested that if parents received a monthly cheque from Ottawa to help with the expenses of raising a child, they'd just "spend it on beer & popcorn".
The nerve! The gall! What self-respecting parent would waste money on popcorn?
And think of the children - why should they be excluded from the joy of playing in bars, simply because they're underage?
Well, the BBQ Kings continue to try to be All Things To All People. We've organised a follow-up to our ridiculously popular All-Ages matinée back in 2006. This time around at Ginger's, we have a return of the young group from that original performance - The Lemonados.
Then there's a rock quartet named Hemsworth that's so young, their combined ages don't add up to that of a single BBQ King. Or a married one. But musically, look out.
We'll then go unplugged for Dozen Even, the exciting a cappella group from Dartmouth High, conducted by Zoe Leger.
And finally, the Fossil Fools (looking remarkably like the BBQ Kings with cronies) will have you (and the kids) dancing the rest of the afternoon away.
So, to review: beer (of the award-winning Granite Brewery variety), no popcorn (but fine pub fare from Ginger's kitchen), and music by & for all ages - Saturday, April 21st from 2-5pm.

Update!
Hi all,
You'd never know it from this website, but the BBQ Kings have been busy. We played a number of private functions over the last couple of months and have been working up new material, recording some off-the-floor mixes and generally goofing around. Stay tuned...

Seahorse: Feb. 18th
Ok - so many of you have told us you've missed "gettin' down" with the Kings that we're inviting you to go underground with us for our first gig of 2006. On Saturday night, February 18th, we're rockin' out in that legendary subterranean watering-hole, the Seahorse Tavern. And in case it's been a while since you stepped off Argyle Street and walked down that broad staircase to The Seahorse, get ready for a surprise. The classic bar, warm lighting, well-engraved tables & funky benches are still there, but those big pillars that blocked sightlines are gone, thanks to a recent renovation (and no, the pillars weren't load-bearing).
Settle in with a pint of the tavern's signature "Horsepower S.S." microbrewed beer as we unveil a batch of great new tunes by John Michael Gray. We'll also debut some hits & obscurities we've been tenderizing over the past few months in positively scorching rehearsals.
Don't miss it !
